In the event of a delayed opening, the exam that would have been taken during the first examination session will be given during the second session. The second exam will move to the third session.

Note to Students:

Semester exams for all students at Stonington High School are scheduled for Tuesday, Jan 21st, to Friday, Jan 24th. Although you are required to be at school only when you have an exam, supervised study areas are available if you wish to stay in school even when you do not have an exam. Breakfast will be available in the cafeteria from 7-10 in the morning. Lunch will not be served during exam week. A special bus run will take you home after the second exam session at 11:07 each morning. Students who have an afternoon exam will be picked up by this mid-day bus run for transportation to the school. All afternoon buses will run as usual, but there will be no late bus on exam days. Extra-curricular activities will be curtailed during exam week so that you may focus on preparation for your exams. Athletic practices and other after school activities will be canceled or abbreviated and will be optional for any student who needs the time to study. All school rules apply during exams including dress code. No hats, headwear, etc. No back packs.

Note to Parents:

Semester exam grades count 20% of the semester average with the first and second quarter grades counting 40% each. As parents, you can play a meaningful role by helping your teenager develop and maintain a serious attitude about studying for exams. We encourage you to talk to your child concerning adequate preparation for the upcoming exams.
Discussion of exam content, readiness for exams, and budgeting their time to prepare effectively for exams should take place at home. When it does, the result is usually improved performance. If students have been conscientious with their studies throughout the semester, a thorough review of the course content (along with any helpful guidelines provided in the classroom) should ensure success.

Guidelines and Expectations:

  1.     Attendance for scheduled exams is absolutely essential. The only legitimate reasons for absence are illness, court, or family emergency. Parents will be phoned each day to verify the legitimacy of a student’s absence. A note from parents will be required if they cannot be contacted by phone. Makeup exams due to a legitimate absence must be arranged by the student with each individual teacher. Any student who is late for an exam must report to the main office and sign in.
  2.     If students are not scheduled for an exam but wish to stay in the school, they must report to either the Library Media Center or the Cafeteria/Café Commons and are not to leave the school. This applies also to the break between exams (9:00-9:30). Once an exam has begun, students must remain in the classroom, Library Media Center or Cafeteria/Café Commons.
  3.     Students may not leave the building between exams.
  4.     Unexcused absences will result in a zero on the exam.
  5.     All exams will be worth 20% of the semester grade or 10% of the yearly grade.
  6.     All incomplete exams must be made up prior to February 7, 2020.
  7.      Students who fail to return books/materials, make accountability payment, or failure to serve office detentions will be unable to purchase tickets/attend any formal social function (Homecoming, Winter Ball, Proms, etc.). In addition, we will withhold diplomas for any senior who owes an accountability.
  8.     An honor roll will be listed based upon the second quarter grades, not the semester grades.
  9.     Students should verify with their teachers the date and time of each exam. There is no excuse for not knowing when you are supposed to take an exam. Students will take exams in all classes including Physical Education. Seniors with an A average in a one-semester course will be exempt.
  10.     On exam days buses will pick up students at the normal time each morning. Buses will also leave the high school at 11:07 each morning to bring students home and to pick up students who have an afternoon exam. (After 11:07 the only students in the school are students who have an exam/make-up exam during Exam Block C. Breakfast will be available in the cafeteria from 7:00 A.M. – 10:00 A.M. At 2:00 P.M. buses will transport students who had Block C exams.
  11.     Students who drive to school must observe all parking and traffic regulations.
  12.     No late buses run on exam days.
