Kindergarten Eligibility Age Information 2025-26 School Year
Information for parents/guardians of children who will turn 5 between September 2, 2024 and January 1, 2025.
On July 1, 2024, Section 3 of Public Act 23-159, as amended by Section 1 of Public Act 23-208, amended Connecticut General Statutes § 10-15c (Spanish version) to require that children turn five years old on or before September 1 of the school year in order to enroll in kindergarten.
Parents/guardians of children who will reach the age of five on or after September 2 and on or before January 1 of the school year may apply to be considered for early kindergarten entry by using the Stonington Public Schools Early Admission Process.
This waiver process includes:
A. Completing the Request for Early Kindergarten Entrance Waiver Form by March 1, 2025; and
B. Parent/guardian and child attending a multidisciplinary assessment based upon CT ELDS standards. This assessment will include an observation to determine your child’s developmental level in a variety of domains.
A decision regarding your request for early entry will be made following the assessment session.
Parents/Guardians should NOT initiate registration for kindergarten until they have received a final waiver decision from the District.
