Our district is comprised of four schools that serve approximately 1,700 students from across the Stonington community including the borough of Stonington, the villages of Pawcatuck, Lord’s Point, and Wequetequock, and the eastern halves of Mystic and Old Mystic. The two newly renovated and expanded elementary schools, Deans Mill School and West Vine Street School, serve students in grades preK-5.
Each school has been recognized for academic excellence and provides a vibrant learning environment for our youngest students. Both schools offer high-quality, student-centered programs in reading, writing, mathematics, and science, as well as art, music, and physical education/health. Stonington Middle School serves students in grades 6-8 and enjoys robust music and drama programs.
In addition to strong standards-based core curricula in mathematics, science, social studies, and language arts, students benefit from a menu of encore classes including photography, international sports and games, forensic science, and public speaking. Stonington High School has recently been named to the AP District Honor Roll for consistently maintaining high scores while steadily increasing the participation rate. In addition to cognitively demanding academic programs, 75% of the student body participated in the wide range of extracurricular offerings and competitive sports.
All schools within the district offer an outstanding Unified Activities and continue to add new programs, including Unified Living at the middle school level. The district also enjoys many strong community partnerships, including the Mystic Seaport, Mystic Aquarium, Electric Boat, Stonington Historical Society, New England Science and Sailing, LaGrua Center, and the Yellow Farm House at Stone Acres Farm. These community partners assist us in developing new curricula, offer learning opportunities outside of the walls of the schools, and provide internship experiences for students.
